UCL is ranked 4th in the world’s top ten universities by the most recent UK Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings, and is currently investing £350 million in state-of-the-art-facilities for cutting-edge research. It is also the UK University most cited by health researchers.

Research into experimental medicine using gene therapy is a particular strength and is supported by a new clinical grade vector production unit and an experienced Advanced Therapeutics Trial team who will contribute to this trial. Successes include stem cell gene therapy for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency and a promising new adeno-associated viral vector for haemophilia B.

The UCL Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) is a unique pairing of clinical (UCL Hospitals) and academic (UCL) strength and expertise in Women’s Health. The Institute collaborates with UCL initiatives in gene and cell therapies and hosts one of a handful of groups worldwide with a focus on perinatal gene delivery. It performs pioneering research in the areas of maternal & fetal medicine, neonatology, reproductive health and women’s cancer.

UCL will sponsor the trial and the UCL Clinical Trials Unit will be responsible for its delivery.
